Fuel Crisis Expected to Drive Motorcycle Sales Growth in Australia

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has reported a 7.4% increase in motorcycle sales in Australia during the first quarter of 2026, with 20,624 new bikes sold between January and March.
This growth is largely attributed to a significant rise in off-road motorcycle sales, which saw a 26.7% year-on-year increase, totaling 8,737 units.
Scooter sales also experienced a 7.8% uptick, reaching 1,431 units.
Conversely, the road segment declined by 3.2%, and off-highway vehicles saw a 9.2% decrease.

FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber highlighted that while these figures precede the full impact of the global fuel crisis, there is an expectation that rising fuel prices will lead to increased adoption of motorcycles and scooters as cost-effective urban transportation alternatives.

It's important to note that the reported sales data includes figures from FCAI members only, excluding non-member brands such as CFMOTO and Royal Enfield.

In summary, the Australian motorcycle market is demonstrating resilience and potential growth, particularly in the off-road and scooter segments, as consumers seek more economical transportation options in response to escalating fuel costs.
